Aiguille and Orlando Health have partnered to develop an adaptive climbing, sometimes referred to as para climbing, program at Aiguille. Adaptive or para climbing refers to individuals with a wide range of unique and varying abilities that participate in climbing.

Orlando Health received a grant with which to purchase specialized equipment as well as pay for advanced training geared towards the needs of adaptive climbers. Orlando Health desired to launch this program as part of its Advanced Rehabilitation Institute in order to introduce patients to climbing as part of their rehabilitative program.
On January 25th and 26th, staff from Orlando Health as well as Aiguille staff and Aiguille
member volunteers underwent a 2-day training program conducted by Paradox Sports, a company dedicated to opening up adaptive climbing opportunities to change lives and
communities.

Aiguille and Orlando Health volunteers were trained to utilized advanced rigging systems and equipment and received instruction on how to assist and meet the needs of a wide range of adaptive climbers’ special needs. Starting in April, Aiguille and Orlando Health will be hosting a monthly “meet up” one day a month for adaptive climbers with the trained volunteers on sight and available to aid adaptive climbers.
